About the Markham Nature Area

A small group of garden-loving Concord residents founded the Markham Regional Arboretum Society in 1981. They wanted to create a lovely arboretum on their property, a piece of which Ira and Bea Markham had given to the City of Concord in 1966. The arboretum has since grown to include thirty different gardens with over 3,000 species of plants! The Markham Nature Area is the perfect place to spend a summer day dog-walking, picnicking, or just enjoying the outdoors.

Dogs In The Park

The Markham Nature Area is a great spot for dog-lovers. There are plenty of open spaces for dogs to run around and play fetch or chase a ball. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, but there is no shortage of places to walk your furry friend. The park also has a designated dog-walking trail where dogs can roam free.

Ponds And Picnicking

The Markham Nature Area is home to two ponds: the Upper Pond and the Lower Pond. The ponds are a great spot for fishing or just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. The park also has picnic tables, making it the perfect spot for an afternoon lunch or snack.

Beautiful Green Spaces

The Markham Nature Area is filled with beautiful green spaces. The park has nature trails, a wildflower garden, and an herb garden. There is also a children’s garden, which is a great place for kids to explore and learn about plants.

Nature Walks And Nature Centers

The Markham Nature Area offers both self-guided and guided nature walks. The self-guided walks are perfect for exploring the different gardens and ponds at your own pace. The guided nature walks are led by knowledgeable docents who can answer any questions you may have about the plants and animals in the park. The Nature Area also has a Nature Center, which is a great resource for learning about the different species of plants and animals that call the park home.

The Markham Nature Area is the perfect spot to spend a summer day outdoors. Whether you’re a dog-lover or just looking for a beautiful place to relax, the Markham Nature Area has something for everyone.
